How to close the gap between my permanent Teeth ?

Q.I have a gap between my front teeth row. went to near by dental clinic and she suggested me to have a cap.Its looking wide and having different color. I can't even smile now.can you please suggest me if i have a clip.does that really close gap between teeth permanently.and how long i should have it. or is there any way to close these gaps between the teeth.
